Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness; According to the greatness of Your compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash me thoroughly from my wickedness and guilt And cleanse me from my sin. For I am conscious of my transgressions and I acknowledge them; My sin is always before me (Psalms 51:1-3).
it is easy to quote the tired refrain “Nobody is without sin” (1 John 1:8). This passage does not absolve us of sin and it is not a “safe harbor”. David’s actions led the peaceful nation to the brink of civil war and his actions would be felt in the family for over 300 years. David’s sin with Bathsheba was just the “foot in the door” for the Devil who would cajole David into hiding his sin by having Uriah put to death. Those that read David’s account may shake their heads at him but understand, the Devil always starts at our weakness and works further to destroy us..
Thank you for your mercy and your forgiveness. I am not perfect and I admit that. Help me also to keep my eyes open to see where sin will lead me that I will not need to go down David’s pathway.
