Be gracious to me, O God, be gracious and merciful to me,
For my soul finds shelter and safety in You,
And in the shadow of Your wings, I will take refuge and be confidently secure
Until destruction passes by.
I will cry to God Most High,
Who accomplishes all things on my behalf [for He completes my purpose in His plan] (Psalms 57:1-2).
David had been promised the throne of Israel years before Saul died (1 Samuel 16:13). Although the anointment was on David and had been removed from Saul, David remained faithful to the LORD and respected King Saul (1 Samuel 24). David would not be crowned king over Judah until 15 years later and then would be crowned king over Israel after Saul had died in battle. Because David had done nothing to jeopardize the promise, he had protected Saul even though David was the better man, and he wanted patiently for the hand of the LORD to move, David had the confidence to seek G_d in the time G_d’s favor and G_d answered with mighty acts of power (Psalms 20:6).
You promised us a Savior who would save the nation and the world. We did not need to go looking for the Savior, he met us and chose us for His purpose. May your good Spirit be the light in my life that leads me through the trials and temptations that I may be a “Man after your own heart” just King David and King Jesus.
