Have mercy on me, O God, according to Your lovingkindness;
According to the greatness of Your compassion blot out my transgressions.
Wash me thoroughly from my wickedness and guilt
And cleanse me from my sin.
For I am conscious of my transgressions and I acknowledge them;
My sin is always before me (Psalms 51:1-3).
After David had been confronted by Nathan the Prophet for his sinful actions, David uttered this prayer. When we come to the Father and confess our sins, it doesn’t make the consequences go away, it opens the door to forgiveness and ultimately healing. David would spend the rest of his life regretting his actions and more so when he watched the nation being destroyed. David’s road to recovery was long and fraught with problems like getting pelted with stones by an adversary, watching his kingdom crumble beneath his feet first with the rape of Absolomon’s sister, then Amnon’s murder, and culminating with Absolomon’s untimely death at the hands of Joab.
Please help me today to put a clamp over my mouth and a guard over my heart. The seeds of sin are very tiny but grow in every kind of soil with very little water. Sin never presents itself as a “disaster in waiting” it comes across as “innocent” and “free”. Once the seed is planted, it will grow rapidly and spread like wildfire. So help me to always have my spiritual weapons on and serviced so that I will be ready when you call. I pray for my law enforcement officers, police, EMT, military, family, city, state, and US.
