Not to us, O LORD, not to us, but to your name goes all the glory for your unfailing love and faithfulness. Why let the nations say, “Where is their God?”
Our God is in the heavens, and he does as he wishes. Their idols are merely things of silver and gold, shaped by human hands. They have mouths but cannot speak, and eyes but cannot see. They have ears but cannot hear, and noses but cannot smell. They have hands but cannot feel, and feet but cannot walk, and throats but cannot make a sound. And those who make idols are just like them, as are all who trust in them (Psalms 115:1-8).
When we live for the Lord and let Him sit on the throne of our life, we unknowingly a conflict. Because we are “human”, we want the trappings of the world but do not always see that they are an “illusion”. When I was in IT, I wanted to get certified in Cisco hardware but I always came up short because it had nothing to do with my job so I never got to practice so the certification would have been meaningless. In the same way, when we see our friends, family, or neighbors purchasing lavish homes, luxurious cars, and/or toys, we want to become jealous. Jealousy compels people to “keep up with the Joneses” only to find out the price the family member, friend, and/or neighbor paid for those items, and then it is too late to change our minds.
When we live for you and relinquish control of our life, you direct us in the way of peace and along with that road immortality (Proverbs 12:28). We will never be remembered for the cars we drove, the house we lived in, and/or the plethora of toys we possessed, we will be remembered for the joy we brought to others and the hope we infused in others. Help me to live for you and I relinquish control of my life to you. I pray for my families, my Law enforcement officers, military, EMTs, teachers, friends, and coworkers. May your good and Holy Spirit be with those who need a special touch from you today.
