Morning Encouragement for 5/26/2022

Good Morning,

Scripture records “the Devil is a liar” (John 8:44) but, what does that mean, and how does it apply to the 21st century? When we review the past few years with the increase in mass shootings, riots, and general unrest, something should stand out in your mind that would tie all of the events together and that is, “it is always a reaction to a perceived wrong whether real or imagined”. You see, the Devil uses painful situations for his amusement first to convince us of the “justness” of our cause and then leads us over a cliff to our death or into his grip. British apologist C.S. Lewis in the preface to his book “The Screwtape Letters” said, “Not everything that Screwtape says should be assumed to be true even from his own angle”. This statement is relevant in our society today because Uncle ScrewTape (a prototype of the Devil) instructs his minions on how best to control their assignment or “patient”. Now the word “control” is not well received in modern-day circles because it implies “force” and “I lose my rights” so let’s change it to fit the Devil’s purposes. The minions use our pride and prejudice against us and compel us to agree with them and make it seem like “our idea”. Understand this, the minions can be anything and anyone sort of like a play or scam for our benefit. Only when we stop and put the situation aside and talk to people will the circle be broken and the Devil will lose.

Readings: Galatians 5:22-23, 1 Peter 5:8, John 8:44, Psalms 17:8-12,

Father,

Thank you for the awesome ability to communicate and express ideas. You made mankind in your image that is, you gave us a mouth to speak, ears to listen, a heart that pumps blood through our veins, and a mind to think. Just because we were made in your image, though, doesn’t imply we need to think and talk alike. Help me today to embrace the differences and use them as stepping stones to building connections instead of tearing them down. Help me today to be quick to listen and slow to speak. I may not agree with everything said in this world but then again, many don’t agree with me. The Devil is an expert in his field and I am no match for him so please help me today to grow closer to you and that you will empower me to bring the words to my listeners. I pray for the people in Texas who are dealing with the immense tragedy that shook the elementary school and the many lockdowns that ensued. I pray for the students that you will send in wise counselors who will help the families and the children to move past this tragedy and give no glory to the Devil. I pray for the military, law enforcement, and EMT communities that you will be with every one of them and bring them safely home. I pray over our politicians that you will continue to shake them to their core with the message of the Ephod so that they fully understand who they serve. I pray for the city of Stacy, the state of Minnesota, and the USA may your Spirit fall fresh upon us. I pray for the truckers who carry supplies to our communities. I thank you for healing our land by rain that refreshes the land and the storms that shake the heart of mankind. I pray for those who need a special touch from you today. Finally, I pray that my words will always be an encouragement to all who read these words in Jesus’ name I pray. May your peace be upon my family, city, state, nation, and world. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD, my rock and my redeemer (Psalms 19:14).

Morning Encouragement for 5/25/2022

Good Morning,

William Shakespeare said, “All the world’s a stage, And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and entrances, And one man in his time plays many parts, His acts being seven ages” (All The World’s a Stage). Drama has three structures: setup, confrontation, and resolution. Unfortunately, life and scripture are not as clean as Drama because we only know what is written which is one-sided. It would be very nice if we could see the beginning and outcome of our decisions before we make them hopefully we’d be more careful how we conduct the affairs of our life. As terrible as it sounds, we will not always make the right decision even if we did it with the best of intentions. For this reason, I believe the ancient priests wore an ephod so that they would be reminded of who they served and who was impacted by their decisions when they were behind the curtain of the Holy of Holies. The question I want to ask you today is, “Which way will you have it ‘Father what is pleasing to you’ or ‘How in the name of all that is Holy did I get here?”?.

Readings: Ecclesiastes 3, Exodus 39, Psalm 101.

Father,

Thank you for a brand new day that I can sow the seeds you have given me. I pray for Your continual direction in my life that my words may reach a desperate world longing for peace. Our world is on a jagged edge as we are dealing with the outcome of people’s choices such as the shooting in Texas. Unfortunately, we do not know why people do what they do or the pain in their background, all we know is what they did. For this reason please help me to write the words that will minister to lives before, during, and after decisions are made. I pray for the people of the little town in Texas who are dealing with the outcome of the school shooting please send in wise counselors to help them navigate the treacherous waters. I pray for Ukraine and the war that is spilling over into various nations that Your peace will prevail. Morning Encouragement for 5/24/2022

Good Morning,

There are oddities about G-d that are often hard to understand. To me, one of the hardest is that G-d doesn’t tell us what to do or what not to do. Instead, His word is like a “fork in the road”. WHen we are about to embark on a bad decision, He doesn’t tackle us and force us into compliance rather, His word tells what will happen in the end it is on us to find out about the “middle”. Not everybody will make the same decision and what is good for one is not necessarily good for the other because each of us has different circumstances. Making a decision is not easy especially when it affects people on either side of the fork. Consider Rebekah’s direction to Jacob, if he obeyed his mother he would receive his father’s blessing; if he had not, he would therefore be cursed and the prophecy would be circumvented or so he thought. Stepping out in faith is a difficult prospect because we don’t always see G-d’s plan forming and we have no idea why He has directed us to __. Thankfully we have the two “Great Commandments”. If our goal in life is to please G-d, we will be obedient to what is asked of us and thereby bless ourselves, our families, and our communities. If we treat others as we want to be treated, we will have peace in our homes.

Readings: Genesis 27:5-13, Matthew 22:26-30, Ecclesiastes 12:9-13, Psalms 29, 2 Peter 1:3-11

Father,

Above all things you are G-d and you know the beginning and the end of every matter. You have witnessed the rise and fall of many cultures. Your word promises us that if we are obedient we will enjoy the good fruit of the land and peace in our homes. Unfortunately, You do not tell us what will happen with each and every step we make any more than You will force us into compliance. Without doubt both ends of a decision will cause pain at some point or another if this were not so, Jesus’ crucifixion would be painless and he would have laughed with every strike of the hammer. So when we make decisions, please help us to consider everyone that is affected by our choices and then help us to step out in faith. Thank you for my families, friends, city, state, and nation. Please cover my families, city, state, and nation today. As the world is on the brink of war, help us to consider the events of the previous wars and then step back from the edge. Morning Encouragement for 5/23/2022

Good Morning,

Last night I had a dream that troubled me greatly. I dreamt that this person got me angry because he was the type of person who was always ready. This man received awards I never got, was promoted when I was denied, and could run without breaking a sweat. So, I decided to do something about it. I filled up a bag with powdered cement and tied off. While he was out running, I met him at the end of his run. WHen I saw him, he as in his dress uniform so I rolled down my window, and called to him. When he turned to look at me, I  threw the bag of dried cement at him which exploded all over his dress uniform. Later that day a Physical Fitness  test was held and I woefully unprepared for it. The proctor looked at the participants and me in particular and said, “You guys did not prepare for the test” and in frustration cancelled it. In the next scene, my supervisor approached me and a young lady. To the young lady he said, “HR has read your report on ‘Suicide Prevention’ and were greatly impressed.” To which I suggested they send me to Communication School and was told, “You are getting out and after yesterday’s events you would not be qualified”. I was upset by this and scared that I was in for some real trouble. So I tried contacting the person I threw the cement at but he was out at a Coffee shop having a cup of coffee. I asked his team mate if there was a way I could get hold of him and was  told, “not unless you fill out a request and get it approved all the way up to the Admiral”. Knowing how much trouble I would get into, I went in search of the coffee shop. My plan was to buy a bag of dried cement and have him throw at me however, my plan was thwarted. Before I reached the coffee shop, I prayed a sincere prayer that I would be forgiven and that the mess would be cleared up. That is where the dream ended.

I told you about this to address a common issue and that is, “we don’t always think through out words and actions before implementing them”. Each of us is human and as such deal with emotions and make bad decisions. Consider Moses and Aaron who after being tried to their wit’s end with the whining and crying of the nation every time things didn’t go their way. At Maribah, Moses was told “speak to the rock”. That is, “Rock please poor water out”. Moses took his staff and said, “Do we have to pour out water for you” and then promptly smashed his staff over the rock and out came water. This single incident was the straw that broke the camel’s back and the two men would die before crossing over the Jordan river. The reason for such a drastic decision was that instead of honoring the Lord’s direction Moses put on a show that would make the people believe Moses drew the water not the Lord. Moses would later pour out his heart pleading the Lord’s mercy and that He would change His mind but it was not to be.

When we are trouble, the first thing we do is try “damage control” when that doesn’t work we resort to prayer like David prayed after Bathsheba. I will tell you from personal example that the time to pray is before acting on unwise decisions. Our common enemy’s minions always seek to convince us that our actions are the only way knowing that if we wait,  the urge will pass and we’ll see the light and save us from disaster.

Readings: Numbers 20:10-13, Haggai 1:7-11, Proverbs 12:15-16, Psalms 51, Acts 5:30-41

Father,

We are often our worst enemy because we act without thinking and then turn to you praying that the mess we created would magically go away. Unfortunately once we commit to a course of action, it is too late. When we are given what have not earned and we act in retribution. Our common enemy convices us of the justness for our actions only to turn on us. Help us today to always turn to you and not try to fight the Devil by ourselves. Morning Encouragement for 5/19/2022

Good Morning,

After snookering Isaac into blessing Jacob, Rebekah plays on Isaac’s limited cognition abilities to fix the problem she created. The only way to protect Jacob would be to send him away from Canaan. To accomplish this, Rebekah resorts to a ruse “I am tired of these Hittite women if my son marries a Canaanite it will be the end of me”. Sending Jacob away from the promised land was not in his best interest because Abram was called out of that place to come and was never given permission to return. It was in Canaan on Mount Moria or “place of the wind” that Isaac was set to be sacrificed by his father. Instead of putting the boy to death, the Lord provided another a ram that was caught in the thicket as a substitute sacrifice. So Isaac had an abiding faith in the Lord. the problem was that the Lord did not disclose his full plan other than “the older will serve the younger”. You see, faith goes beyond “I believe the Lord”, it is acting on the promise by walking in the admonition of the Lord, raising our children in the light of His word so that in time he/she will be prepared for service whatever it may be. We do not have the power over this ungodly world even if we have the political position to write laws in our favor but we do have the power, authority,  and the Lord’s mandate to walk in obedience to Him. When we give the Lord full power over our lives, He will fulfill the prophecy in keeping with His laws. When we step ahead of G-d the prophecy will be fulfilled, but with a slight deviation. Consider the case of David in the days following Bathsheba.

Readings: Genesis 28:1-5, Psalm 102:1-11, 2 Samuel 12:1-11, Proverbs 14:19, Matthew 5:17-20

Father,

You are the G-d of the ages, the G-d who is and was and is yet to come almighty. Those who have relied on you have never been ashamed of having done so. So when it comes to prophesy and your written word, help me to daily put my trust in them despite what the world says or does. When we allow the Devil to get a foothold in our life, the sin(s) we commit will stain the blessing you have in mind for us. It was for this reason that the nation Israel would spend an additional 40 years walking in circles in the desert. I pray for your divine guidance Lord to lead me on the pathway of righteousness so that I may lead others and be a source of encouragement for the lives of my readers. I pray for my nation as we are at a turning point and it looks like the nation is on the verge of collapse yet I know that You have still have designs for this world and that you have not given up on mankind. I pray for a revival across the world today Lord that will turn the lights on the dark areas of the Devil’s kingdom and will turn people back to you. I pray for the military, law enforcement, and EMT communities that you will be with every one of them and bring them safely home. I pray over our politicians that you will continue to shake them to their core with the message of the Ephod so that they fully understand who they serve. Morning Encouragement for 5/18/2022

Good morning,

Yesterday, I talked about how favoritism divided the two brothers Jacob and Esau. If Esau had taken five minutes to talk with Jacob and let Jacob know he was not alright with what transpired, he might have found out that the real culprit was his mother not his brother. the problem Jacob had was that his name means “he who grabs the heel” or “thief”. Esau was relying on his opinion of Jacob in lieu of hard evidence. Rebekah may have felt justified for what she did and in the end, Esau did serve Jacob. The thing is when G-d promises us something it is not up to us to see the promise is fulfilled, it is up to Him. When we force prophecy to occur, we also create trouble in our homes or, “the wind” (Proverbs 11:29).

Readings: Genesis 27:30-46, Proverbs 11:29, Psalms 100, Matthew 18:1-6

Father,

Thank you for this brand new morning. You are the G-d who fulfills us, builds up, helps us in adversity and teaches us patience in suffering. We are not told why Rebekah acted as she did other than to ensure Esau would serve Jacob according to the prophecy. You leave out these tidbits so that we can fill in the blanks when we are presented with similar situations. Unfortunately, like Rebekah, when it looks like Your promise is going to be thwarted we step in to defend You. The thing is Your word is never thwarted and we do not need to defend Your honor. We simply need to trust you. I pray for the military, law enforcement, and EMT communities that you will be with every one of them and bring them safely home. I pray over our politicians that you will continue to shake them to their core with the message of the Ephod so that they fully understand who they serve. Morning Encouragement for 5/17/2022

Good morning,

The last we read about Jacob, he was caught by two opposing forces. His mother talked him into pretending he was Esau to get Isaac’s blessing and Esau would get Jacob’s curse. By forcing prophecy to occur through her actions, Rebekkah caused problems for Jacob which did not go away with the passing of time. In the same way, the Pharisees acted dishonorably by ensuring Jesus went to the cross. When God promises us something, whether it be a wife, a child, or a job, we owe to ourselves to let Him bring it about. The Devil finds no greater pleasure than to talk us into giving up our blessing in favor of a lesser item. The Devil promises the moon but only gives the misery of darkness, pain, and angst. Your family, just like your ministry, is far too important to allow the temporal spirit to take the reigns and lead you into paths of futility.

Readings: Genesis 30:37-43, Proverbs 3:4-5, Psalms 23, Romans 2:6-11

Prayer

Father,

You are an awesome G-d. You love all of mankind yet you bless your righteous servants. You are the Lord our provider and if we will simply wait for you, YOu will answer with deeds of awesome righteousness. I asked for life and you gave it abundantly. I asked for your leadership and you carried me through every storm and trouble that I have faced these past 37 years. I pray now for my children and grandchildren that you will watch over them all of the time. I pray that the same spirit you have imparted to me will be with my children as they seek guidance in their lives. I pray for my nation that you will guide us through the storms. I pray for boldness to declare your love and mercy to a war-weary nation. I pray for the military, law enforcement, and EMT communities that you will be with every one of them and bring them safely home. I pray over our politicians that you will continue to shake them to their core with the message of the Ephod so that they fully understand who they serve. Morning Encouragement for 5/15/2022

Jacob’s Flight

In Abraham’s closing days of his life, he sent his servant to go back to Haran, which was the clan that he came from, to get a wife for his son Isaac. Under no circumstance was his servant to bring Isaac to Haran. Now, this sounds crazy because we are not told why he was so firm about it. Isaac’s wife Rebekkah would be a “living example” of why Isaac shouldn’t go back to Haran. When Rebekkah became pregnant, she had two nations in her womb with the older serving the younger. Rebekkah wanted to be on the winning side so she favored Jacob which created fights between the sons. We find out how well Jacob learned the trade of “being sneaky” when Esau asks for a bowl of Jacob’s red stew. Jacob used Esau’s hunger to steal his birthright. The incident with the meal served to Isaac and the receiving of his blessing was the powder keg that ignited a war. Rebekkah coerces her husband into sending Jacob back to Harran to her brother Laban. Remember there was no such thing as “G-d’s laws” at this point in history. So it was from events such as these that the law was formed.

Encouragement: Favoritism is a deadly weapon because, it creates fights, divides families, and causes breakdowns in communication. Scripture’s admonition against “playing favorites”, I believe anyway, stems from Rebekkah which makes her the example of “why not …”. You see, scripture is more than a list of “do this, don’t do this”, it is a living example that shows the “why”. When we are delivered from something, we are told “don’t go back to it”. Then we decide to go back to __ under the auspices of “sharing the gospel” only to be sucked back into the old way. When we go back to the old ways, the Devil will not let us go and will drive us deeper into sin until we are trapped. So when we admonish our children to not do ___, they will ask why and only answer we can give them is “trust me”.

Readings:

Genesis 25:19-27, Proverbs 25:2, Deuteronomy 17:18-20, Romans 7:7-9

Father,

You established your law over 3 millennia ago and it is still as viable and live as the day you wrote it. We may think the law is absurd until we are in the Devil’s trap and have no way out just like David. We may try to run away from our problems only to have them follow us and create havoc wherever we go just like Jonah. Please forgive our foolishness and help us to open our eyes and ears to hear, listen, and obey your laws. Our world is on the verge of war all because we would not listen to the ancient laws and therefor we are learning the “hard way”. We may be unable to change our past but we can chart our future in view of the mistakes we have made. Getting Ahead of the Lord

Readings: Genesis 16, James 1:5-8, Philippians 1:4-6, Isaiah 41:9-10, and Psalm 91:14-16

Abram and Sarai were over 80 years old and usually by that point in time people are grandparents.  Abram had been promised an heir and a nation as large as the number of stars in the sky, and how the nation would suffer for 400 years (Genesis 15). Gentlemen imagine being at the age of 86 and coming home to tell your spouse “guess what? We’re going to have a family so large that the stars in the sky pale in comparison.”. Your wife’s response would most likely be, “Honey have you been in the sauce again?”. Our arch-enemy, the Devil, duped Sarai into believing she needed to help the Lord after all, “how on earth is it possible to start a nation with two geriatrics?”. The Lord came through on his promise with a child that was born to Abraham and Sarah a few years after the birth of Hagar’s child. The thing is, Hagar and Ishmael would be evicted from the home twice and create future problems for Isaac and Rebekkah as well as Jacob and his family. In the same way, many of you have been promised something by the Lord whether it be a spouse, a job, a promotion, etc. When that promise does not come to fruition in the time we set or in the way expect it, we think “Maybe the Lord needs a little help”. I will tell you from personal experience, that the Lord will fulfill and complete that which He has started and does it without our help. 37 years ago, I asked the Lord for a spouse who would complete me and to have a family in 1986. 36 years later we are still married and she is still the Queen of my life. I encourage you, therefore, to hold onto the Lord’s promise without wavering.

Father,

You are the G-d and Father of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and thousands upon thousands of others who have put their trust in you. For 37 years I have had my trust in you and You have never failed me. Please forgive me for the times I got ahead of you or listened to the wrong voice and got myself into trouble. Help me today to honor you in all that I do. I pray for those who are trusting You for answers to big prayers like a spouse, a job, healing for a loved one, etc. I pray for the peace of the USA the peace only You can give. I pray for those in harm’s way today like our military, police, and EMTs.

Morning Encouragement for 5/9/2022

Readings: Romans 16:17-20, Psalm 128, Isaiah 55:6-9, Proverbs 15:16, and Matthew 5:6

Encouragement: Of all the words used in Christianity, I believe righteousness is one of the most difficult things to grasp. I say this not because it’s impossible but because we read in scripture about the great men and women of old like David and Deborah and compared to them, our walk is anemic. The thing is, what we do not understand about scripture is that there is more to every story told than what the writer has relayed. Additionally, many of the stories were put into print years after the death of the individual. So why is this? Mike’s theory is that the Holy Spirit wants us to finish the story through life experience. So being “righteous” doesn’t mean “never having made a mistake”, it means that we are doing the best we know how to with the cards we are handed. You see we all make mistakes in judgment and so we learn from them and rely on G-d’s grace to connect the distance between our failings and the people who relied on us.

Prayer:

Father,

You are from all eternity, from all ages past to future ages. You have seen the rise and fall of many good people across the ages and you loved them dearly. When I consider the life of David, Solomon, Hezekiah, and many others, I see a common trend in that they were imperfect people in the hands of Holy and Just G-d. You do not pick people for ministry based on “perfect fit” but not availability, faithfulness, and obedience. Please help me today to be obedient to what you ask of me so that lives will continue to be blessed and encouraged through this ministry. I pray over the trouble that is spreading across Europe and the known world that you will bring this to an end in your time. I pray for the peace in the US and across the world. I pray for those who have lost loved ones in the recent uptick in violence.

Morning Encouragement for 5/8/2022

Good Morning and Happy Mother’s Day!

Mother’s Day was first instituted in the US around 1908 when Ann Jarvis wanted to honor her deceased mother. The holiday was intended to promote the health and welfare of mothers around the nation. Over time the holiday was overtaken by commercialism and, in a way, killed the purity of the day (Mother’s Day). In just about every store, except maybe gas stations, you can find cards for just about every flavor, decree, and color which cost anywhere from $1 to $5 or $6. Flower centers sell arrangements for upwards of $200.00. Restaurants offer special meals for mothers and are usually very crowded with long waiting lines. So it is true that Mother’s Day can be called a “Hallmark Holiday”. The thing is, we need to push back on commercialism by making this day a special day to honor mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers in a tangible and personal way. The same thing can be said about our relationship with our Lord. It was Joshua who first challenged the people to choose who they will serve but no matter what choice they made, he and his house would serve the Lord. Who will you serve? How will you honor the special women in your life gentlemen? Children, how will you honor your mothers?

Reading: Proverbs 31:10-31

Father,

I pray for these special women on this Mother’s Day. I pray that their day is blessed and that you will honor them with your presence. May you watch over these women and send your angels around them. the world may have its way and commercialism may hold a monopoly on the day yet, I know that I have a choice “cave into the flood” or be the standard against it.  Thank you for all that you do in and through us may this day be blessed. I pray especially for your protection of Ukraine and the world at large.  The world is preparing for war yet I pray that You will quell the shouts with Your peace.

Morning Encouragement 12/18/2021

Good morning

Since the beginning of 2020, the world has been party to several storms not to mention the beloved COVID that have caused untold amounts of damage not to forget the lives that were lost. Before a big storm, there are almost always warnings either on the news or in the sky. The reason for the warnings is that we will use the time to prepare for them. Many of us, me included, do not always prepare for storms despite every possible warning and find ourselves at best overwhelmed by them or, at worst crushed by them. Despite the best early warning radars, there are storms in which there is no warning and leave us with more questions than we have answers for; sort of like what Job went through. My encouragement to you who are enduring storms is, don’t give up and don’t give in except to good judgment (Winston Churchill). God does not let us face the storms just to see if we are waterproof; rather, it is to test the quality of our metal so that the sword we hold becomes pressure tested (verse) and we become battle-ready. God never plays chess with us to see who has the quickest wit; rather, he trains us through the storms to trust him (Psalms 131:1-2). I find that the greatest warriors for God are generally those who have endured the greatest storms; equally, those who have the greatest trust in God have also been the ones who have lost the most (Matthew 16:25). When you read about Job, and I highly encourage you to do so at least once a year, you will see a man who faced innumerable difficulties that would drive the strongest to question God’s existence. Job faced accusations from his closest friends and family, and insults from the very people he took care of when they were in need (Psalms 35:13-14). Remember, the word of God is not merely a book of uplifting words to be used as a buffet; rather, it is meant to be a mirror that helps us to look at our past in light of the present and strengthen us to face the future (a topic for another day).

10 In conclusion, be strong in the Lord [draw your strength from Him and be empowered through your union with Him] and in the power of His [boundless] might. 11 Put on the full armor of God [for His precepts are like the splendid armor of a heavily-armed soldier], so that you may be able to [successfully] stand up against all the schemes and the strategies and the deceits of the devil.

(Ephesians 6:10-11).

Father,

You give us all that we need to face the storms of our life today. You tell us not to be worried about tomorrow’s storms nor, next week’s or, even yesterday’s. You tell us that because “enough for today is the troubles therein” (Matthew 6:34). When we focus our attention on today’s storms, we find the way by following the light (Deuteronomy 31: the path you have never taken). We cannot fix the things that are in our past nor, can we fix tomorrow so, we must center our eyes on today. If we are powerless to fix today which we can see, how can fix yesterday much less tomorrow? Be with my readers Father in all of the storms of their life.I pray for the military, law enforcement, and EMT communities that you will be with every one of them and bring them safely home. I pray over our politicians that you will continue to shake them to their core with the message of the Ephod so that they fully understand who they serve. I pray for the city of Stacy, the state of Minnesota, and the USA may your Spirit fall fresh upon us.
